The Friends of the Kelley Farm and our Sunbeam Grange #2 organization are proud to support The Dictionary Project. The goal of the program is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary. The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come. Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn, so we sponsors are encouraged to give dictionaries each year to children in third grade.
Sponsors of this national program include Rotary Clubs, Kiwanis Clubs, Elks Lodges, Granges and other local organizations who aim to better their local communities.
The Friends of the Kelley Farm, in coordination with Sunbeam Grange #2 of Sherburne County, have raised funds to donate thousands of dictionaries to students in Elk River and Becker School Districts since 2005. Donations are up to more than 500 dictionaries each year. Nation-wide, the program has provide dictionaries to more than 18 million children since its inception in 1995.
